Activities at Bart's

There are plenty of opportunities to get involved, whether you would like informal book groups in the evening, or the chance to sing in the choir, or want to help with our children's activities.

For adults

Bible studies and book groups

These run on an ad-hoc basis on weekday evenings, usually Tuesdays, from 8 to 9:30 p.m. in meeting rooms at church. People are most welcome whatever their level of knowledge and experience, and you can come along to items which interest you without having to follow any set course. The group is co-ordinated by Hazel Carcas and Sarah Liebert.

We have a varied program, sometimes concentrating on an in-depth review of a book of the bible over several weeks, at other times working through a devotional or theological book, or attending talks by members of the congregation or visiting speakers with knowledge in related areas. This year we are planning to discuss the popular book "The Shack," share in an educational and reflective Lent group with other local churches, study the book of Jeremiah over several weeks, and organise a talk on archaeology in the Holy Land.

Music at St Bart's

We have a strong musical tradition and there are several ways to take part. Please contact Dennis Baugh for details.

The Choir

There is a robed choir singing four part traditional and modern anthems, and leading the congregation in singing the communion setting and hymns, at the 10a.m. main Sunday services and other feast days through the year. The choir rehearses for one hour per week most weeks with a practice session of fifteen minutes before each Sunday service. For special services, some people join the augmented choir, rehearsing for several weeks before the occasion, but not staying with the choir year-round. (Robes are provided by the church.)

St Bartholomew’s Singers

The singers lead music for worship on all-age and some other less formal services, drawing on folk and gospel traditions. It is not necessary to read music to join the singing group, and they do not wear robes at services. They rehearse for one hour per week most weeks.

Junior Choir

This is suitable for children between around 7 and 14. They sing children’s songs from a mixture of traditional and modern sources, including African and Caribbean songs, at all-age services and some other special services. There is one thirty minute practice per week.

Prayer Forum

A monthly opportunity to meet in the evening and pray for our concerns, whether sick people known to us, members of the church and community, or global concerns. Generally held on the first Tuesday of the month; venues vary so please ask the churchwardens, Nick and Paddy, for details.

Social and fundraising events

These are held frequently but organised on an ad-hoc basis, so please see the relevant announcements page for details.
